Taipei, Jan. 6 (CNA) The Erlin Farmers' Association in Changhua on
Tuesday launched a series of skin and health care products made from
the extracts of the dragon fruit flower.
"The products, including insect repellents and anti-inflammatory
throat sprays, are made from essence of locally grown dragon fruit
flowers and we hope they can help boost local farmers' revenues and
offer consumers safe choices," said Changhua Deputy Magistrate Ko
Cheng-fang at the launch.
Erlin's cultivation of dragon fruit, a favorite of many people in
summer, has expanded rapidly in recent years to 280 hectares,
accounting about 30 percent of the crop acreage across Taiwan, said
Tsai Shih-chieh, chairman of the Erlin Farmers' Association.
In a bid to maximum the use of the plant and improve the
livelihood of local farmers, the association has teamed up with
National Changhua University of Education to produce the top quality
essence, Tsai said.
The flower essence products are all SGS certified, providing a
guarantee of safety to consumers, according to the farmers'
